Absence

Absence is an interactive artwork produced in collaboration with the artist Mónica Loyola.

This light and sound installation addresses the social problem of femicide in Mexico and pays tribute to women through poetry.

The installation consists of a sewing machine and thread screens on which a poem is projected to subtly commemorate women brutally murdered in Mexico, thus evoking the dead women of Juarez, specifically maquiladora workers in Ciudad Juarez. Representative of all women lost in the country, this case has been etched in the collective memory of Mexicans as one of the first femicides.

Monodata developed the sound piece and the interactive software for the installation and was responsible for the technical setup at each venue.
